Wordpress Update From Hell
Its that time again… The wordpress developers just released a patch/update. Wordpress 2.5.1. It contains one neccesary security vulnerability update and a number of performance enhancements. Since there was nothing wrong with the blog, i opted to download the 3 files that had the security vulnerability in them, and just overwrite my current files with those.. I did that and i got error messages in my admin CP.
So i downloaded the full version of wordpress 2.5.1 and uploaded it over my current installation, but keeping important directories like my plugins, themes and config.php . I uploaded that .. and it still didn’t work. I could view the blog, but i couldn’t do anything in the admin CP. It seemed the WYSIWYG editor, TinyMCE, had errored out on a javascript. It basically froze firefox when i was viewing the post editting interface. Whats more i could not publish or save them because my buttons wouldn’t click. I redownloaded the wordpress 2.5.1 and again, uploaded over my current files. Finally it works.. sort of. I can edit, and publish posts. But i can’t edit or add categories, my post buttons keep flashing (see video below) and the visual editor is really, really laggy. The spell checker doesn’t work either.
So that tops it off. I know updates are never flawless, but this was just ridiculous. I highly suggest you do not upgrade your blog from 2.5 to 2.5.1 … wait until they release a better patch. Thanks alot wordpress for your great update….

It has been horrible. Blogging activity has become a difficult task instead of pleasure that I knew it for. Now I dread going to the admin dashboard because it freezes my browser.
The unfortunate things is that nobody has been able to give a satisfactory solution to the problem. Most of the suggestions are only useful for those that love “computer codes” and are not afraid of going under the hood of their website. For the rest, we are simply waiting and praying

Well for me, I have been using Wordpress for a little while now and every update has run smoothly for me. In my opinion I think you should quit whining, send a report to Wordpress detailing the problems and be thankful that the wordpress community has released a fantastic CMS. If it doesn’t meet your needs, simply change CMS’s. Or better yet, try coding your own. I wonder how many problems and errors YOU would come across. I personally thank Wordpress for the fantastic software that they have released. Keep it up!
